Cuttack: In a highly shocking incident, an umpire was allegedly killed over his 'No Ball' decision during a cricket match at Mahisananda under Choudwar police limits in Odisha's Cuttack, today.
The deceased was identified as Lucky Rout (22) of the locality.
According to reports, a cricket match was underway between two teams, in which Rout was umpiring. After he declared a delivery as 'No Ball', a dispute emerged which later took a violent turn.
Some of the players allegedly attacked Rout with bat and stabbed him with a knife. The victim sustained critical injuries and was admitted to the SCB Medical College and Hospital here for treatment.
However, he succumbed to his injuries while undergoing treatment at the government healthcare facility.
On being informed, police reached the spot and started an investigation into the incident.
Tension ran high as irate locals gheraoed the cops demanding immediate arrest of the accused.
