Nildunguri: A flying squad of police recovered a total cash amounting to Rs 1,61,800 and later seized the entire money from a man identified as Amit Kumar Jaiswal during vehicle checking near Nildunguri gate in Sambalpur district, today.

Amit hails from Pallahada locality of Angul district. He was on his way to elsewhere in Sambalpur.

According to a source, Amit was intercepted by the squad in the evening and the cash was found in his possession. As the man could not account for the cash satisfactorily, the money was seized from his possession. The money was later deposited in the District Treasury of Sambalpur following the seizure. “The man could not give a convincing reply when he was intercepted,” a cop stated.

The squad has detained Amit and he is being interrogated to gather more information.

“Keeping in mind the upcoming polls, we have intensified vehicle checking,” the official expressed.
