Bhubaneswar: Portion of an under construction flyover collapsed at Bomikhal area in Odisha capital today.
As per reports, one person died on the spot who was declared dead on arrival at a government-run hospital here. Several others are reportedly trapped in the debris.
The deceased has been identified as Satyabrata Pattanaik from Jharpada area. Pattanaik was returning home after picking his minor daughter from a dance class.
Around 12 injured have been rushed to Capital Hospital here for treatment.
“One person was received dead. Another minor girl who sustained grievous injuries has been referred to AIIMS. We had received 10 injured persons of which the condition of one person is critical. Others have fractures and their condition is stable,” Capital Hospital Director Chita Ranjan Das said.
Notably, the critically injured girl identified as Sheetal is the daughter of the deceased Satya Patnaik.
Fire department personnel reached the spot for rescue operations. Sniffer dogs have been pressed into service to locate trapped persons.
The officials of R&B Division reached the accident site to ascertain the cause of mishap.
"Action would be initiated against people responsible for the mishap," Works Secretary Nalini Kanta Pradhan said.
On the other hand, locals have alleged poor quality construction which led to the collapse of the concrete structure.
Sources said the centering support caved in leading to the disaster.
