Undertrial makes suicide bid, jumps from district court building in Odisha

The hearing was underway when he suddenly created a scene and before anyone could restrain him, jumped from the second floor of the building

Jharsuguda: Tension prevailed after an undertrial prisoner reportedly made a suicide bid by jumping from the second floor of the District Court building in Odisha’s Jharsuguda district today. The prisoner, identified as Sanatan Singh of Junadihi village within Belpahada police limits, has been shifted to the district headquarters hospital in a critical state.

As per reports, Singh was arrested under POCSO Act for his alleged involvement in a rape case in April last year and was scheduled to appear in the court of Daura judge today. The hearing was underway when he suddenly created a scene and before anyone could restrain him, jumped from the second floor of the building.

He suffered grievous injuries and was immediately rushed to the hospital for treatment. After recuperating, he claimed that he resorted to this extreme step out of distress as the victim girl and lawyers  were extorting money from him and blackmailing him.
