Undertrial prisoner dies on way to hospital in Odisha’s Jajpur

Jajpur: An undertrial prisoner (UTP) died while being taken to a hospital for treatment in Jajpur district today.

The deceased has been identified as Gandharba Swain, a resident of Paikarapur village under Badachana police limits in Jajpur district.

He was arrested during a loot bid in Sukinda area in December last year.

According to reports, the accused had sustained injuries after a bomb exploded in his hand during dacoity at a forest area in Haripur under Sukinda police limits on December 4 night. He lost his right hand in the incident. He was arrested by the Sukinda Police under treatment at the SCB Hospital in Cuttack. After his health condition improved, he was lodged at the Sub Jail in Jajpur Road.

The health condition of Undertrial prisoner again deteriorated today morning following which the jail authorities decided to take him to hospital for treatment. However, he died on way to the hospital.

The doctors declared him dead at the hospital. The police, jail authorities and district magistrate reached the hospital for investigation.
