Undertrial prisoner ends life in Jajpur jail in Odisha

While it is still unclear as to why Behera took the extreme step, official sources said the exact cause of death will be ascertained after the autopsy report arrives.

Jajpur: An under-trial prisoner reportedly died by suicide in Korai in Odisha’s Jajpur district here today.

The deceased was identified as Balam Behera.

As per reports, Behera, who was housed in Ragadi sub-jail in Korai tehsil of the district, hung himself with a towel in the newly constructed medical facility on the prison premises. Security personnel rushed him to Jajpur community health centre (CHC) but doctors declared him brought dead.

On getting information, Korai and Jajpur Road police reached the spot and seized the body for post-mortem. While it is still unclear as to why Behera took the extreme step, official sources said the exact cause of death will be ascertained after the autopsy report arrives. Probe is underway.
