Undertrial prisoner flees from Odisha jail

Malkangiri: An undertrial prisoner escaped from Malkangiri sub-jail on Tuesday night.

The prisoner Ajit Dakua allegedly fled while the drain cleaning work was underway inside the jail.

The matter came to light after the jail authorities found the prisoner missing during regular checking between 9.00 pm and 12.00 am.

A complaint was filed by the jail authorities at the Malkangiri police station in this connection.

According to reports, Ajit was lodged in the jail after he was arrested by the Balimela police on charges of illegal supply of ganja in January this year.

“An FIR has been lodged by the jail superintendent against the prisoner under section 224 of IPC. The jail authorities suspected that the accused might have escaped during drain cleaning work. The raid is underway to trace the escaped prisoner,” said Ranjan Sahu, Malkangiri Police IIC.
