Undertrial prisoner flees while being taken to hospital for treatment in Odisha’s Jajpur

Korei: An undertrial prisoner (UTP) gave the slip to local police when he was being taken to a hospital for treatment. He was previously lodged in Jajpur Road sub-jail in Ragadi under Korei block of Jajpur district. The incident came to the fore today and police have not yet nabbed the fugitive.

The runaway has been identified as Pratap Singh. He fled from a hotel where the UTP and on-duty police personnel were having their food before reaching the government-run health facility.

According to a source, Pratap hails from Janha under Panikoili police limits. He is the accused in a rape case. Allegedly, he had made nude photos of the victim woman viral on social media.

On Saturday, some jail staff along with police personnel brought Pratap to the hospital. They alighted from a police van at a roadside eatery in Tentulikhunti. Pratap fled taking advantage of security lapses.

The jail authorities yesterday lodged an FIR in this connection at Ragadi police station.
