Nayagarh: Taking stringent action over three-time escape of an undertrial prisoner (UTP) from Khandapada Sub jail, Nayagarh SP suspended five police personnel for dereliction of duty.
The five officials including a havildar were placed under suspension after an UTP gave police officials the slip and escaped from their custody while he was being taken to produce before a local court on August 9.
They were deployed to escort and produce UTP Tapan Rout, who was lodged at Khandapada Sun jail, before Bhapur court.
According to reports, the UTP, who is an accused in rape of a minor girl, had managed to flee from police custody on the way to the court. He jumped off the police van and escaped for third time.
