Unidentified miscreants loot around Rs 5 Lakh from SBI ATM in Odisha’s Angul

Angul: An automatic teller machine (ATM) of the State Bank of India (SBI) was looted late last night by some unidentified miscreants by cutting open the kiosk near Ballahar Chhak of Talcher town in Angul district. The looters decamped with cash of around Rs 5 lakh from the teller machine.

According to a source, the ATM kiosk located in a market complex was targeted and its cash chamber was opened by cutting it with a gas cutter.

On being informed by the bank’s branch manager, a team of local police reached the spot and initiated a probe, which is underway. “A preliminary investigation suggests that the criminals involved in the bank heist are history-sheeters and have ample expertise in committing the crime,” a cop stated.

“There is a high possibility that the looters have links with interstate gangs from outside Odisha. As per CCTV video footage, the miscreants went away in a car soon after committing the crime,” the cop added.

On the other hand, some locals alleged that the loot occurred due to a lack of police patrolling.
