Union Budget 2023-24: Highest-ever allocation to education sector, says Dharmendra

Bhubaneswar: The Union Budget 2023-24 will pave the way for transformation of India into a knowledge-based economy, said Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan today.

The Finance Minister has made the highest-ever allocation of Rs 1,12,899.47 crore for the education sector in the Budget 2023-24, Pradhan added.

The allocation for skill development sector in this year’s Budget is Rs 3,517 crore, he said.

“The Finance Minister has allocated Rs 1, 16, 417.08 crore for the education and skill development sector in this year’s Budget,” Pradhan added.

The Education Minister thanked the Prime Minister and Finance Minister for a brilliant, people-centric and growth-stimulating Budget.

“The Budget will boost education, skill development, entrepreneurship, R&D, digital infrastructure, green growth and job creation,” said Pradhan in a twitter post.

The Budget has provision for upgradation of District Institutions for Education and Training (DIETs) across the country to impart training to teachers for proper implementation of the New Education Policy of the Union Government. The Budget has proposed for a National Digital Laboratory, Pradhan said.

“The Centre will provide skill development training to the youths across the country through the Pradhan Mantri Koushal Vikash Yojana. As many as 30 Skill India International Centres will be set up across the country,” revealed the Union Education Minister.

According to Pradhan, altogether 157 nursing colleges will be established in as much medical colleges in the country. As many as 38,800 teachers and other staffers will be appointed in 740 Ekalabya Schools across India. At least 3.5 lakh tribal students will be benefitted through this initiative, he said.

“The Budget has been prepared by keeping an eye on the next 25 years. It has provisions to boost tourism, women empowerment and development of primitive tribes. This Budget will play a key role in the development of people from the weaker sections,” Pradhan added.
