Altogether 63 Kendriya Vidyalayas and Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas in Odisha will receive around Rs 130 crore as central assistance in five years under the scheme.
Bhubaneswar: Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan today launched the PM SHRI School scheme in Odisha.
The Union Minister launched the centrally-sponsored scheme at an event at Railway Auditorium in the capital city here.
Altogether 37 Kendriya Vidyalayas and 26 Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas in the state will be upgraded under the scheme in the first phase.
These schools will showcase all the components of the National Education Policy (NEP)-2020 and provide high-quality education in equitable, inclusive and joyful environment.
“Altogether 63 Kendriya Vidyalayas and Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas in Odisha will receive around Rs 130 crore as central assistance in five years under the PM SHRI School scheme,” said the Union Education Minister.
On the occasion, the Union Minister urged the Odisha Chief Minister to take the necessary steps for the implementation of PM SHRI scheme in state government-run schools.
“I have personally written to the Odisha Chief Minister thrice in last one year urging him to take the necessary steps for implementation of the scheme in state government-run schools. The Centre will provide funds for upgradation of at least two schools in each block of the state. As many as 800 schools in Odisha will get central assistance to the tune of Rs 1,600 crore in five years under the scheme,” Pradhan said.
The Union Education Minister further revealed that the state government has the full authority to select any two schools from each block for implementation of the scheme.
Notably, the Centre had launched PM SHRI School scheme on September 7, 2022 to develop as many as 14,500 schools with all modern infrastructure.
The Centre had requested all the states and Union Territories (UTs) to sign MoUs with the Department of School Education and Literacy (DoSEL) at the Ministry of Education for implementation of the PM SHRI School scheme.
However, the Odisha is yet to sign the MoU with the DoSEL for implementation of the scheme in the state government-run schools, Pradhan had said in his letter to Odisha CM on November 15.
