Union Min in controversy for posting ‘Garbhagriha’ pic of Odisha’s Lingaraj temple

Bhubaneswar: Union Minister Vijay Goel has landed in controversy after posting photos of sanctum sanctorum (Garbhagriha) of Lingaraj temple in Odisha capital on Twitter.

Wishing the people of Odisha on the occasion of Utkala Dibasa yesterday, Goel tweeted three photos mentioning that those were clicked during his trip to Bhubaneswar last year.

Two of the photos featured the Union Minister offering prayer to the deity at the Garbhagriha. Worth mentioning, cameras, mobile phones and other recording devices are not allowed inside the sanctum sanctorum of the temple.

However, Goel today withdrew the images tweeting that he had by mistake tweeted the pictures and did not wish to hurt anyone’s sentiments.

Reacting sharply over the incident, senior Congress leader Sura Routray demanded the resignation of the Union Minister.

On the other hand, BJP state unit general secretary Prithviraj Harichandan blamed the temple administration and the servitors for the incident. “The concerned authorities should have apprised the minister about the ban on photography inside the temple as he was unaware about it,” Prithviraj said.

It may be recalled here that an FIR was recently lodged against bollywood actress Raveena Tandon for shooting a video inside the temple premises with a mobile phone.

Notably, only servitors are allowed to carry mobile phones inside the temple while it is prohibited for public.
