Unit-1 vegetable market in Bhubaneswar to have new address soon

Bhubaneswar: Unit-1 vegetable market in Bhubaneswar will have a new address soon as the Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) has decided to shift the local market from the crowded area to another location.

Unit-1 vegetable wholesale market will be relocated to Bhagabanpur, on outskirts of Bhubaneswar, to avoid traffic congestion, informed BMC Additional Commissioner Binay Kumar Dash after a meeting here today.

Currently, the vegetable market in Unit-1 is situated in 4 acre area. The space is not enough for parking of vehicles in the market, he said.

“The vegetable wholesale market will be developed on approximately 10 acre area. There will be arrangement for loading and unloading of the produces. As the market will be shifted to a place adjoining the National Highway, the transportation of goods will be easier,” said BMC City Engineer Arun Nayak.

Officials including planner and city engineer were present at the meeting to discuss the plan and design and modalities for development of the vegetable wholesale market at Bhagabanpur.

“We are verifying eligibility condition for shifting the vegetable market to another location. Now, we are finalising the modalities and we will make arrangement for settlement later. The market will be shifted as early as possible,” Nayak told reporters.
