University girl student kidnapped in Odisha capital, raped

Bhubaneswar: A girl student of an university was allegedly kidnapped by a youth in Odisha capital and raped by the accused.

The Saheed Nagar police have arrested the youth, identified as Akshay Das (22) alias Raja of Khordha.

According to police sources, Raja and his associates abducted the victim on August 30 around 2 pm when she was returning home from university. They drugged the girl and made her unconscious when she tried to raise alarm while being forcibly taken to Puri in a vehicle.

Family members of the girl had lodged a missing complaint with Saheed Nagar police after failing to know her whereabouts. Acting on information about presence of the girl at a slum near Khandagiri here, police raided the place and rescued her, besides arresting Raja.

As per the statement of the victim, Raja had forcibly taken her to Ganjam and Puri on the pretext of providing her a job, where he raped her at hotels. He was also planning for trafficking of the girl to other state.
