Bhubaneswar: The final day of the monsoon session of the Odisha Assembly witnessed uproar by BJD and Congress members over the fuel price hike issue which resulted in an adjournment till 3 PM.

While the BJD legislators stood near their seats and created ruckus, the Congress MLAs shouted slogans against the Central Government wearing gowns over the hike in petrol and diesel prices.

Unable to run the House amid pandemonium, Speaker Pradip Kumar Amat adjourned the Assembly till 3 PM.

Earlier in the day, the Congress had moved an adjournment motion notice over the Bomikhal flyover collapse incident alleging poor infrastructural work and lack of action against the concerned construction company.

"While the price of oil is decreasing in international market, the same is increasing in our state and country. The Central Government had declared a daily fuel price revision but it has only resulted in hike of petrol and diesel prices. The consumers are getting affected with it and we protested it in the Assembly today," said BJD MLA Amar Prasad Satpathy speaking to reporters outside the House.

On the other hand, the BJP alleged of a "fixing" between BJD and Congress to protect the ruling party as a debate over the motion would have put the ruling party in trouble.

"The Congress had earlier moved an adjournment motion notice over the Bomikhal flyover collapse incident. However, the way they (Congress members) protested the hike of fuel price and deviated from the flyover collapse issue, it seems there is a fixing between the Congress and BJD to protect the latter and the Chief Minister. The BJP was ready for debate over the motion," said BJP MLA Rabinarayan Naik outside the House.

Refuting the allegation of the saffron party, Congress chief whip Tara Prasad Bahinipati said the Congress doesn't have the tradition of involving in fixing with other parties. Rather, the BJP has the habit of doing so, he said.
