Baripada: A youth died after being hit by a running train near Rairangpur railway station in Mayurbhanj district, today.

Identity of the deceased cyclist has not been ascertained yet, a senior cop from local police station said.

According to a source, the youth was crossing a railway line on his bicycle and using an earphone, and listening to music when the fatal mishap occurred. Tatanagar-Badampahar-Rourkela MEMU special train (No-08148) of South Eastern Railway was approaching and the cyclist could not know about it.

“The youth was probably absent-minded and was hit by the moving train near the railway level crossing gate at Sinduragouri locality. He died on the spot,” an eyewitness expressed.

It is pertinent to mention here that in another train mishap, a youth using an earphone and making reels died after being hit by a train around two months ago. The incident had occurred near Bangiriposi.
