Using mobile phone on road proves to be fatal; takes youth’s life in Odisha’s Nabarangpur

Dabugaon: A youth was killed on the spot while using his mobile phone sitting on a road as he was hit by an unknown motorcycle at Butiaguda village under Dabugaon police limits in Nabarangpur district, yesterday. However, the incident came to the fore after an FIR was lodged with local police today.

The deceased was identified as 18-year-old Gurubaru Bhatara, who belonged to Butiaguda.

According to a source, the motorcycle hit Gurubaru in the evening at around 7.00 pm on Dabugaon-Medana road. The youth was using his mobile phone when the fatal mishap occurred. He screamed for help but to no avail. Hearing the scream, his family rescued him and admitted him to hospital.

Unfortunately, the youth died late last night while undergoing treatment in critical condition.

Acting on the FIR lodged by the deceased’s elder brother Jogesh Bhatara, Dabugaon police reached the spot and initiated a detailed probe into the untimely death of the youth, which is underway.

Police have registered an unnatural death case (No-67/2024) in this connection, and seized the body of Gurubaru and sent it to a nearby hospital for post-mortem. A post-mortem report is awaited.
