Uttarakhand tunnel collapse: Trapped labourer speaks to family in Odisha over phone

Baripada: Odia labourer Dhiren Nayak of Mayurbhanj district, one among the five from Odisha and 40 from the country trapped in Uttarakhand tunnel collapse mishap, today communicated with his relative through a pipe and said, “We are all fine here”. This was the first message from the tunnel.

“Tell me the truth about the condition of all family members. Except for a few, others are well. Record my message and convey it to all in the family that I am all right,” Dhiren expressed during the conversation.

The relative of Dhiren boosted the trapped man’s morale telling him not to lose patience.

Nearly four days have passed since the fatal cave-in incident. Five men from Odisha got trapped as an under-construction tunnel on Yamunotri national highway in Uttarakhand collapsed on Sunday.

The Odias were identified as Tapan Mandal from Khurda, Bhagaban Batra from Nabarangpur, Bisweswar Nayak from Bangiriposi, Raju Naik from Kuldiha, and Dhiren Nayak from Badakudar.
