VC cabins of Orissa High Court to be set up in 30 Odisha Judgeships soon

Cuttack: Video Conferencing (VC) cabins are to be set up, one each, in 30 District Court complexes of Odisha to assist lawyers in virtual hearing. The VC cabins will function like virtual High Court.

“In compliance of the Apex Court’s order dated 14th December 2022 in TP(C) No. 2419 of 2019 (M/s PLR Projects Pvt. Ltd. Versus Mahanadi Coalfields Ltd. and others), it has been decided to establish dedicated VC Cabins in all the 30 Judgeships of the State,” a notification issued by Orissa High Court said.

In the first phase, VC Cabins of the High Court of Orissa will be established in 10 District Courts, which will function like the virtual High Court with facilities of e-filing, mentioning, removal of defects, virtual hearing of cases, grant of certified copies etc as per the SOP circulated, the communiqué read.

The districts are Sambalpur, Balangir, Sundargarh (at Rourkela), Kalahandi (at Bhawanipatna), Koraput (at Jeypore), Ganjam (at Berhampur), Khurda (at Bhubaneswar), Puri, Balasore and Bhadrak.

Accordingly, arrangement of staff deployment has been made for smooth functioning of the VC cabins. The shortlisted staffs are to report before their respective District Judges positively in the afternoon of February 1, 2023, the High Court directed vide its order No-1502, dated January 27, 2023.
