VC of Odisha-based SOA University Prof RP Mohanty given a warm farewell

Eminent academician and vice-chancellor of the Odisha-based Siksha ‘O’ Anusandhan (SOA) University Prof Rajendra Prasad Mohanty was accorded an emotional farewell at the end of his tenure on Friday.

SOASenior professors and faculty members heaped praise on Prof Mohanty for his contributions in strengthening the academic activities, research in particular, in the University which had created a healthy environment for furthering such work.

They pointed out that Prof Mohanty’s efforts had culminated in the establishment of the Centre of Excellence in Theoretical and Mathematical Sciences (CETMS) and the Centre of Bio-mechanical Sciences while the number of research scholars had gone up significantly.

Prof Manojranjan Nayak, founder of the University, was present at the farewell ceremony which was attended by Deans of different institutes, several senior professors and senior officials including the Registrar, Prof BB Pradhan.

Among others, Prof BK Sarap, deputy chairman of the University, Prof DK Roy, Medical Director of the Institute of Medical Sciences and Sum Hospital, the faculty of medicine of the University, Prof PK Nanda, dean (Research), Prof Sureswar Mohanty, head of the Department of Neurosurgery in the Sum Hospital, Prof Gopal Chandra Kar, head of Psychiatry department in Sum Hospital, Prof Minaketan Parida, director of CETMS and Prof Jayadev Pati, dean of the SOA National Institute of Law, the faculty of law of the University spoke on the occasion.

Prof DK Roy, who will be functioning as the acting vice-chancellor, felicitated Prof Mohanty while wishing him many more laurels.

A search committee appointed by the University will be selecting a new vice-chancellor shortly.

Responding to the felicitations, Prof Mohanty thanked all the professors, researchers and deans of different institutes for their cooperation and efforts to make the University research-oriented.

“I have been a teacher and will always remain a teacher. My association with the University will continue,” he said.

The SOA University has the infrastructure and personnel to become one of the best of its kind in the country, Prof Mohanty said.
