Bhubaneswar: The vehicles will run on rural roads soon in all the villages in Odisha under Biju Gaon Gadi Yojana launched by Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik in February 2014.
The move came at a review meeting chaired by Commerce and Transport Principal Secretary G Srinivas held on Tuesday.
The government had launched the Biju Gaon Gadi Yojana to construct roads and to enhance transportation facility especially in rural areas. Under the scheme, the government aims to develop connectivity of villages with the cities.
Under the scheme, the government is providing 5% off on purchase of vehicle waiving off road tax.
Total 133 vehicles under Biju Gaon Gadi Yojana are plying in 1,851 gram panchayats in nine places -- Bhadrak, Cuttack, Ganjam, Jajpur, Chandikhole, Kandhamal, Malkangiri, Puri and Rayagada.
While the service has not been started in 80 gram panchayats, the scheme could not be implemented in 25 gram panchayats where there is no transportation facility, the meeting revealed yesterday.
However, initiatives will be taken for operation of vehicles under the scheme and development of roads.
