Vehicular traffic hit following protest over accident death in Kandhamal

Kandhamal: Vehicular movement on roads connecting G Udaygiri and other places in Kandhamal district as well as Berhampur and Bhubaneswar came to a grinding halt after locals of Kanabagiri village in the district staged a road blockade protesting death of a co-villager in a road mishap today.

Keeping the body on the road, the locals demanded compensation for the family members of the deceased identified as Bighnaraj Pradhan (40) of Katadaganda village in the district.

After protesting for three hours, the mob withdrew the agitation when G Udayagiri SDPO Jayakrushna Behera and IIC Jibanananda Jena reached the spot and assured them of all Government assistance for the family members of the deceased. The cops also assured them to nab the culprit soon.

Sources said when Pradhan was returning to his house late last night, an unidentified vehicle ran over him on the main road near Kanabagiri and fled the spot. Meanwhile, police have registered a case in this connection and began an investigation into the incident.
