Vigilance arrests Assistant Engineer for taking bribe in Odisha’s Dhenkanal

Dhenkanal: The Vigilance caught an Assistant Engineer red handed while accepting bribe from a contractor to pass the running bills in Odisha’s Dhenkanal district today afternoon. Based on a complaint filed by Contractor, Jagamohan Panda, the sleuths laid a trap and nabbed Assistant Engineer of DRDA, Dhenkanal, Bipin Bihari Das at around 3.30 PM.

Panda bagged the contract for LED lighting in six blocks of Dhenkanal district. When Panda met the Assistant Engineer to pass his bills for the work done in the six blocks, Das demanded Rs 36,000 bribe a few days back.

Following this, the Contractor lodged a complaint with the Vigilance. As per the plan, the Contractor today approached the Assistant Engineer to hand over Rs 16,000 bribe. But Das did not accept the money and asked the contractor to give the bribe amount to one Shakti Prasad Mohanty. In the meantime, the sleuths raided the Assistant Engineer’s office and arrested him for taking bribe.
