Bhubaneswar: Vigilance today arrested the Headmaster of Baragaon Upper Primary School in Nabarangpur district on charges of amassing assets disproportionate to the known sources of income.

The arrested Headmaster, Ranjeet Kumar Panigrahi was found in possession of assets worth Rs 2.60 crore including one triple-storied building, two double-storied buildings, six plots, two four-wheelers, two two-wheelers and bank deposits of Rs 70.46 lakh. He also possessed insurance policies of Rs 20.31 lakh and gold and silver ornaments and cash of over Rs 6 lakh.

A press release issued by Vigilance said, the headmaster was found to be in possession of assets disproportionate to the known source of income to the tune of Rs 1.8 crore. He could not provide satisfactory information about the assets which were found to be disproportionate following an inquiry. Following this, Vigilance arrested the headmaster today.

Based on the allegations, a team of Vigilance officers, Koraput division had raided the houses and office of the headmaster yesterday.

The Vigilance statement said an investigation into the case is in progress.
