Vigilance arrests GST Officer on DA charge in Odisha

Rourkela: The Vigilance sleuths arrested an Assistant Commercial Tax and GST Officer in Odisha’s Rourkela city on charges of amassing assets disproportionate to the known sources of income.

The Assistant Commercial Tax and GST Officer of Circle-1 of Rourkela, Alekha Mohananda was produced before the Sambalpur vigilance court following his arrest. The court rejected his bail plea and sent him to jail custody.

On the strength of search warrants issued by the Special Judge of Vigilance, Sundargarh, four teams of the sleuths raided Mohananda’s houses, office and ancestral house in Sundargarh district yesterday.

In course of the search and inventory, Mohananda was found in possession of assets worth over Rs 1.34 crore including one triple-storied building, one single-storied building, two plots, one four-wheeler, two two-wheelers, deposits in different banks and post offices, investment in insurance policies, gold and silver ornaments and cash over Rs 1.22 lakhs.
