Vigilance detains forest guard while carrying Rs 1.53 Lakh in Odisha’s Nabarangpur

Nandahandi: A bike-borne forest guard was intercepted by a team of Odisha Vigilance sleuths while he was carrying cash of Rs 1.53 lakh with him at Indravati bridge near Khatiguda in Nabarangpur, today. However, the Vigilance team suspects the money to be ill-gotten.

The forest guard was identified as Binayak Chandra Sori, presently working in Nandahandi beat and the in-charge of Jagannathpur beat, O/o Nabarangpur DFO under Nandahandi block in the district.

According to sources, Binayak had kept the entire money in a bag and was carrying it elsewhere in the district when he was intercepted by the officials.

Based on reliable information, Binayak was intercepted while traveling on a motorcycle from Khatiguda to Jagannathpur near the Kapur dam of Indravati project. Cash Rs 1.53 lakh (suspected to be ill-gotten) was found in his possession. As the forest guard could not account for it satisfactorily, the entire amount was recovered from him and later seized.

Following the interception, a house search is being carried out at a rented house in Rajusahi locality linked to Binayak from a disproportionate assets (DA) angle. He is being examined to ascertain the source of funds.
