The court allowed the Vigilance to take Nayak on a three-day remand for further questioning beginning July 27 at 10 AM while directing it to produce him before the court on July 30 at 11 AM, court sources said.

However, the Vigilance had sought a four-day remand of the suspended cop.

The court earlier on Monday had postponed the hearing on Vigilance department’s plea to take the tainted IPS officer on remand scheduling the hearing for today.

The court had postponed the hearing in the matter as the Vigilance had failed to produce the case diary in the matter.

The Vigilance had on Sunday produced the tainted cop before the residential court of Special Vigilance Judge here in CDA area. He was brought to Bhubaneswar on Sunday on a four-day transit remand after his arrest in Ghaziabad on Saturday by the Vigilance.

Notably, five persons have already been arrested in connection with the scam. Earlier this month, Nayak was suspended from the service for his alleged involvement in siphoning off Rs 88 lakh meant for the computer education of SC/ST students and self-help groups (SHGs) in Odisha.

The officer, said to be the prime accused in the case, was on deputation to Odisha till December 2015.

During his tenure as the IG of SC & ST Protection Cell, HRPC, the scam allegedly took place in connivance with the staff of the department and private players.

According to reports, Nayak had undergone a ligament surgery on his leg at the Safdarjung Hospital in New Delhi and was discharged from the hospital on June 22. Since then, he was on the run and had remained incommunicado.
