Vigilante justice: Mob beat murder accused to death in Odisha’s Sambalpur

A double murder has sent shock waves down the spine of people in western Odisha town of Sambalpur today.

According to reports, an elderly man was allegedly killed in a history-sheeter’s attack following which the locals turned violent and chased the accused.

The accused identified as Tinchu Munda was thrashed to death at Gengutipalli square for killing the old man identified as Munuku Oram (75).

Tinchu arrived at Munuku’s house this evening at around 8.00 pm in an inebriated state. The anti-social demanded money from septuagenarian who did not give in to his unjust demands. Following this, an enraged Tinchu thrashed him mercilessly causing severe injuries.

Munuku was rushed to VIMSAR, Burla where he succumbed to his injuries.

The unnatural death of Munuku left the locals red-faced owing which a strong over 200 people bludgeoned Tinchu to death.

Sources said several cases are registered against Tinchu at several police stations in the district.

“Tinchu had a criminal record. Ten years ago, he had another old man for which he was imprisoned for 10 years. He was released from jail six months ago after serving the term. He continued with his notoriety even after being released from jail. This is a result of people’s anger as he has killed another old man today,” Sadar police IIC Sabita Panda said.

Meanwhile, police have been deployed in the village to maintain law and order.

Till the filing of this report, no case was registered with the local police.
