Villager beaten to death over political enmity in Odisha’s Bhadrak

Bhadrak: A resident of Arjipatna village under Kaupur panchayat in Bhadrak district was beaten to death by a group of villagers allegedly over political enmity this evening.

Reportedly, one Nakula Behera of the village was allotted money to construct a house under the Indira Awaas Yojana (IAY). When Nakula unloaded a sand filled truck in front of his thatched house today for the construction work, another villager Guru Moharana along with his four supporters opposed him. As an altercation ensued between Guru Moharana and his supporters and Nakula, the latter’s father Bijaya Behera tried to intervene into the matter.

Irked over Bijaya’s intervention, the group of villagers attacked him with an irod injuring him critically. Bijaya was immediately rushed to the Bhadrak Hospital where doctors declared him dead.

Meanwhile, family members of the deceased alleged that Bijaya was attacked over past political rivalry.

While police have initiated probe, the accused are absconding following the incident.
