Villagers attack police personnel as woman found hanging in Odisha’s Nabarangpur

Nabarangpur: Tension ran high at Jhariguda village under Dabugaon police limits in Odisha’s Nabarangpur district today as locals reportedly attacked and injured four police personnel.

According to reports, body of a married woman was found hanging inside a house in the locality, last night. Badrika Panka, the deceased woman, had married Sunil Nag, three years ago.

A dispute was prevailing between the family members of the two over caste-related issue.

Shockingly, she was found hanging with a rope inside a room in the house. Her family members alleged that she was murdered. A case in this regard has been registered by the Dabugaon police.

As cops reached the village today to recover the body for post-mortem, her kin didn’t allow the police personnel to do so. Police later apprehended accused Sunil Nag, who was hiding in the house.

The matter turned ugly when the villagers tried to attack Sunil while police stopped them. The irate locals then assaulted the police personnel, including the IIC.

Till last reports came in, the body was yet to be recovered by police.
