The Chaturthi after Amavasya or new moon during Shukla Paksha of every Hindu calendar month is known as Vinayaka Chaturthi. This day is dedicated to Lord Ganesh.

Of all the Chaturthi days, the one that falls on the bright half of Bhadra (Bhadrapad) month is the most popular and is celebrated as Ganesh Chaturthi, the birthday of Lord Ganesh.
