Violence mars public hearing in Odisha’s K’nagar

Tension erupted in Kalinganagar in Odisha’s Jajpur district today during the public hearing for the establishment of a cement factory by the Emami Group in the area as locals opposed to the plant barged in and ransacked the venue.

The district administration had to cancel the public hearing following the incident.

According to reports, while the public hearing for Emami Group’s proposed cement factory was being conducted at Danagadi Bhawan in Kalinganagar in the presence of Jajpur ADM and other senior officials with full police bandobast, locals opposed to the setting up of the unit barged into the venue shouting anti-project slogans and hurled plastic chairs kept at the venue.

As tension mounted, officials of the district administration vacated the venue. Later officials cancelled the public hearing.
