Violence over queue system: Amicus curiae seeks report, DGP visits Puri

Puri: Supreme Court-appointed amicus curiae Gopal Subramanium has sought report over incidents of violence during the Puri bandh yesterday over queue system. SJTA chief administrator Pradipta Mohapatra will submit the concerned report.

“The incident has brought a bad name for the temple servitors and people of Puri. The agitators did not even spare the Patitapabana Bighara. A detailed report in this regard along with video footage will be submitted to the amicus curiae by tomorrow,” said Mohapatra.

“The Shri Jagannath Temple Information Centre and Shree Jagannath Temple Administration have lodged two separate complaints with police. Strong action will be taken against the wrongdoers,” he said.

On the other hand, DGP RP Sharma today visited the temple and took stock of the situation in the presence of IG (Central Range) Soumendra Priyadarshi.

Notably, the bandh over demand of withdrawing the queue system for darshan of the deities in the temple took an ugly turn yesterday with agitators uprooting the barricades raised for queue system, ransacking Sri Jagannath Temple Office, looting cash from donation cell, damaging vehicles in the temple office parking lot and metal detectors installed at all the four temple gates.
