Houseboats at Odisha’s Chilika, Bhitarkanika soon

Bhubaneswar: With an aim to promote ecotourism, the State government has decided to launch houseboat projects in Chilika and Bhitarkanika. After attending a meeting of Tourism Advisory Committee today here, Tourism Secretary Vishal Dev said a decision has been taken to purchase new boats for the houseboat project.

The surfing festival at Puri would be organised in tie-up with the Surfing Federation of India and would be made an annual event, he added.

The road shows on Odisha Tourism have been organised in Delhi, Kochi, Kolkata, Guwahati, Bangalore and Hyderabad.

During the meeting Chief Secretary Asit Tripathy also called for road shows in Chennai, Ahmadabad, Varanasi, Raipur, Surat and Jaipur.

Road shows would also be organised in Kulalampur, Bangkok, Barli and Jakarta to attract foreign tourists and private sector investment in the tourism sector, he added.

A Buddhist Circuit Grand will be constructed to promote the Buddhist sites in the State. “Some of the projects will be completed before December this year,” he added.

The department will carry out infrastructure development activities in 13 tourist destinations including Rambha and Chilika. Besides, new hotels and resorts will come up in these destinations.

Around 1.5 crore domestic and one lakh foreign tourists visit Odisha each year.
