Vivah Panchami 2021 Date, Tithi, Rituals and all you need to know

Vivah Panchami commemorates the marriage of Lord Rama and Goddess Sita. It is celebrated on Panchami (5th day) of the Shukla Paksha during the month of Margashirsha in the Hindu calendar.

It marks the ceremonial marriage anniversary of Lord Rama and Goddess Sita. The celebrations are done in Lord Rama temples in different parts of India, particularly in Mithilanchal region and some parts of North India.

Vivah Panchami Rituals

It is celebrated with great fervour in Ayodhya, the birth place of Lord Ram. Temples are lit with lamps on this auspicious occasion.

Enactment of the divine wedding ceremony is an important part of the Vivah Panchami ritual.

A grand procession leaves from one temple to another during day time. It ends with the wedding ceremony in the evening.

The idols of Lord Rama and Goddess Sita are adorned with clothes and jewellery, similar to that of bride and groom. The entire event is popularly known as ‘Ram Vivah Utsav’.

On the occasion, devotional songs in praise of Lord Rama are sung by devotees.

Several cultural programmes are also organized on this occasion. Ramleela is also organised in many regions.

Devotees take holy bath in renowned lakes of Mithilanchal like ‘Dhanushsagar’, ‘Gangasagar’ and ‘Argaza Pond’.
