VLW death: Odisha HC grants bail to Sarpanch’s husband

Cuttack: The Orissa High Court today granted bail to Haridaspur sarpanch’s husband, Rupesh Bhadra who was arrested in connection with the death of a woman VLW in October 2019.

The HC judge Justice Bibhu Prasad Routray directed the lower court to set conditions for Bhadra while granting bail to him. Also, the HC asked Bhadra after being released on bail he should not try to influence the witness.

On October 17, 2019, Dharmasala VLW Smitarani Biswal died in a guesthouse owned by Bhadra. After questions were raised about Bhadra’s role in the death Smitarani, police detained five persons including the sarpanch’s husband. Later Bhadra was arrested on October 19 on suspicion of instigating Smitarani to commit suicide.
