Odisha swimmer Pratyasa Ray today got a warm welcome after her arrival at the Biju Patnaik International Airport (BPIA) here from Bengaluru.

Pratyasa bagged three gold medals at the five-day 43rd Junior National Aquatic Championships at Basanavgudi Swimming Centre in Bengaluru which concluded on July 9.

In a first, the swimmer won three gold medals for Odisha in 50 m, 100 m and 200 m backstroke events by clocking 32:87 seconds, 1:10:47 seconds and 2:35:57 seconds respectively.

This is Odisha’s best-ever performance at the national level in swimming.

The swimming star has won many medals at national level earlier.

“This is a proud moment for us. Hope her performance motivates others to take up this sport and win medals for the state,” coach Surendra Nayak said.

It may be mentioned here that Pratyasa’s father Rajat Kumar Ray is a police officer in Commissionerate police and mother Charushree Beura is a homemaker.
