Washington DC to host its maiden Global Odisha conference on July 1

The Odisha Society of The Americas (OSA) is going to organise its 46th annual convention and the first ever Global Odisha Conference of the Odias in Washington DC on July 1.

Global Odisha Conference-2015The four-day conference aims at bringing global Odias under one roof to reinforce social cohesion, promote cultural heritage and develop greater synergy between the non resident Odias.

Among other topics, the prime focus would be on promotion of tourism and attract industries beyond mineral focussed ones to foster growth in Odisha.

The Odia Diaspora will be organizing Global Odia Competitions with attractive prizes to promote Odisha.

The first competition is about preparing promotional brochures or dossiers for Bhubaneswar and other parts of Odisha with a first prize of $500 and could go up to $1000. This category is open to anyone having computer knowledge.

The second competition, meant for architecture students and professional architects, is about street makeover designs for area around Lingaraj temple, Bindu Sagar and KIIT Street with a first prize of $400 and could go up to $800.

Similarly, the third competition is on travelogues and legends about Odisha and cultural sites with a first prize of $300 which could go up to $600. This category is open to writers, students of language, literature or Buddhist studies.

The participate in these competitions, interested persons can email to [email protected], [email protected], [email protected], [email protected] with a blind copy (bcc) to [email protected] requesting them to start direct international flights to/from Bhubaneswar at the earliest.

The rationale behind this condition is related to the overall goal of promoting Odisha and Bhubaneswar as a destination for investment and tourism.

“We believe that international flight connectivity is a very important aspect of both. Currently, although the Bhubaneswar airport has been declared as an international airport by the previous government, the current government has not yet given permission to interested airlines to start flying internationally to/from Bhubaneswar. Hence, to help bring international air connectivity to Odisha, we have created the above eligibility condition of sending emails to the governments,” the organisers said.

 

The organising committee and jury members include:  Prof Chitta Baral, Dr Tina Satapathy, Satya Patnaik, Prof Kishore Dash, Prof Debajyoti Pati, Prof Annapurna Pandey, Sorel Cook, Prof Lalu Mansingh, Dr Gagan Panigrahi, Dr Adyasa Das, Santosh Tripathi, Rashmi Parida, Dhirendra Kar, Shyam Patra and Sanjay Kanungo.

Gaylord National Resort & Convention Center, Maryland, the location selected for hosting this event would offer the flavors of the Temple city while the activities within the venue would showcase the rich cultural heritage of Odisha. The resonating sound of the Odishi music and dance, enthralling experience of Drama, Mehfil, Chau, Jatra, Gotipua, Tala Badya Kacheri will be performed during the event.
