[Watch] 10th century shrine unearthed in Odisha capital

Bhubaneswar: Ruins of an ancient temple was unearthed during excavation near centuries old Lingaraj Temple in Ekamra Kshetra area of Bhubaneswar.

The ancient structures are believed to be of 10th Century. The excavators found a floor of the ancient temple built during the regime of Som dynasty.

It was discovered by the ASI while carrying out scientific cleaning of the land adjacent to the Sukasari Temple in Ekamra Kshetra of Odisha capital.

Besides, a base (Shakti) of Shivling has also been found during digging at the site.

A portion of the Sukasari Temple (built in 10-11th century) that was encroached by a Sanskrit college has been partially exposed during cleaning of the site.

The excavation work was carried out by an ASI Bhubaneswar Circle team headed by Archaeologist at two acre land near the Sukasari Temple.

This came months after the demolition drive around the Lingaraj Temple as part of beautification of Ekamra Kshetra.
