(Watch) Female jumbo falls into open well in Odisha; rescued

Bhubaneswar: Prompt action by the Forest department officials saved the life of a female elephant in Odisha today.

The elephant, aged around 15 years, fell into an open well near Kaudiapalli village under Badmal forest range of Rairakhol division in Sambalpuri district at around 5 am in the morning, sources said.

The incident took place when a herd of elephants was passing through the village in the wee hours.

On being informed, the officials of the Forest department reached the spot and took stock of the situation.

They later deployed an excavator to raze a portion of the well’s wall and make a slope for the jumbo to climb out, sources added.
