(Watch) Ropeway facility relaunched at Odisha’s Nandankanan

Bhubaneswar: After a long gap, ropeway facility was relaunched for visitors at Nandankanan Zoological Park (NZP) on the outskirts of Odisha capital today.

Forest and Environment Minister Pradip Kumar Amat inaugurated the facility in the presence of MLAs Suresh Kumar Routray and Susant Kumar Rout and senior officials of the zoo.

The ropeway service will be made available for visitors from November 18 (Saturday), said an official.

The ropeway will carry the visitors from NZP to nearby Botanical Garden crossing the Kanjia lake, he added.

The facility was restarted at NZP in collaboration with a Kolkata-based private company at an investment of Rs 13 crore.

In the initial phase, the ropeway has four cabins for the visitors. There is a plan to add eight more cabins later. Each cabin has the capacity to carry up to six visitors, sources said.

Notably, the ropeway facility was first introduced at NZP IN 1994. It was one of the major tourist attractions of the zoo. However, the facility was discontinued following a mishap in 2011.
