Bhubaneswar: As the Unit-9 Govt Girls' High School is set to be merged with nearby boys' high school here in Bhubaneswar, students at the premier school protested opposing the proposed merger.

All the girl students along with their parents observed sit-in protest against the merger, which will take place for relocation of Rama Devi Women's Junior College to Unit-9 Govt Girls' High School, by locking up the main gate of the school.

The Government has decided to merge Unit-9 Govt Girls' High School with Unit-9 Govt Boys' High School to facilitate the shifting of Rama Devi Women's Junior College to the former school building for smooth functioning of classes.

In this regard, the Director of Higher Secondary School, Odisha, has written to School & Mass Education Special Secretary on separation of infrastructure of RD Women’s Higher Secondary School from Rama Devi Women’s University.

According to an official notification by Directorate of Higher Secondary Education, Odisha, the Vice Chancellor of Rama Devi Women’s University is pressing hard for separation of infrastructure of Rama Devi Women’s Higher Secondary School from the university due to certain reason.

As per the decision, the Arts and Commerce streams can be shifted to Unit-9 Govt Girls' High School in first phase. However, the classes for science students will be held at Rama Devi Women's University as there is no laboratory facility at the school for science education.
