(Watch) Tusker falls into abandoned well in Odisha’s Angul; rescued

Bhubaneswar: A tusker accidentally fell into an abandoned well near a forest in Odisha’s Angul district last night.

Prompt action by the officials of the Forest department saved the life of the pachyderm, sources said.

According to sources, the tusker fell into the well near a forest in Athmallik area of Angul while searching for food yesterday night.

A patrolling team of the Forest department spotted the elephant in the 15-foot deep well and informed the incident to their higher-ups.

Soon a rescue operation was launched and an excavator was pressed into service to raze a portion of the well’s wall, sources said.

The tusker climbed out of the well soon after a portion of the wall of the well was razed and a slope was made, said an official of the Forest department.

“The tusker did not sustain any injuries in the incident. It returned to the forest soon after we rescued it from the well,” he added.
