Berhampur: A man was saved today from coming under a train (No-12840) by a Railway Protection Force (RPF) jawan. An apparent mishap could be averted between the time when the locomotive arrived at Berhampur station on PF No-01 at around 12.32 hrs and departed at 12.38 hrs.
While the train was leaving from Berhampur railway station, one male passenger tried to de-board the moving train. An RPF constable (No-10681) named Suryakanta Sahoo, who was on duty on the spot, noticed the passenger falling down and rescued him. The passenger had got trapped between the gap of the platform and the train, an eyewitness expressed.
“After being rescued and on being asked, the victim disclosed his name and address as Jayashankar Munda, aged-34 years, S/o-Raju Munda, R/o-Sakmuthi TE No-01, PS-Jakhalabandha, Kaliabor Nagaon, Assam. He further stated that he along with his wife was traveling from Jakhalabandha to Chennai on a General ticket (No-UZD 42162446). As they had wrongly boarded train No-12840 and were supposed to travel to Chennai by the next available train, the couple de-boarded at Berhampur,” a senior railway official said.
