Bhubaneswar: Sunny Deol’s popular Hindi movie Gadar-2 has an Odisha connection.
Two youths—Barun Bisoyi and Shivashambhu Digal—of Daringbadi in Odisha’s Kandhamal district have worked as foley artists in the movie.
Barun had earlier worked as foley artist in several Odia, Gujarati, Marathi and Telugu movies. He was also part of Odia movie DAMaN, starring Babusan Mohanty.
Barun, who hails from Tini Chhak area of Daringbadi, lost his father when he was in Class-VIII in 1996. He had opted for tailoring to earn a livelihood for his family. Barun’s journey as a foley artist began in 2007, sources said.
Shivashambhu, a co-artist in foley recording, was a newspaper hawker some years ago.
Barun had borrowed Rs 500 from one of his friends to travel to Mumbai in 2001. He began his career as a waiter in the canteen of Natraj Studio. Later, he got an offer to work as an office boy at Aradhana Studio, sources said.
Barun learnt foley recording while working at Aradhana Studio.
“With just Rs 900 in my pockets, I reached Mumbai in 2001. I had urged the authorities of Natraj Studio to provide me a job. But, they refused. The security guard at the studio had helped me a lot to get a waiter’s job,” said Barun.
Foley artists usually reproduce sound effects to enhance audio quality in movies or videos.
These reproduced sounds, named after sound-effects artist Jack Foley, can be anything from footsteps to squeaky doors and breaking glasses. Foley can also be used to cover up unwanted sounds captured on the set of a movie during shooting.
