Rengali: A victim location camera has been sent from Bhubaneswar in a special flight to help rescue the infant who was found today inside a borewell in the forest near Laripali under Rengali police limits in Sambalpur district, informed fire services DG Sudhanshu Sarangi.
“A medical team has reached the spot and the rescue operation is underway. The infant would likely be rescued by tonight. Oxygen is being provided through a pipe. A victim location camera will help ascertain the depth at which the infant is present,” a member of the rescue team said.
Three JCB machines have been pressed into service at the spot for digging a parallel tunnel to reach out to the victim infant who was spotted inside the abandoned borewell earlier in the day.
“An ambulance vehicle has been kept ready at the spot to immediately take the infant to hospital for treatment after rescue. Senior police and administrative officials are monitoring the rescue operation. However, it has not been ascertained how the victim fell into the borewell. The identity of the infant’s parents can be known after the baby is rescued,” the rescue team member said.
Some locals had spotted the infant inside the abandoned borewell after hearing the victim’s cry.
Notably, the sounds of the infant crying are coming out from the borewell.
