Water level rise in Mahanadi triggers flash flood in Banki

Banki: Rise in water level of Mahanadi river following heavy rain in the upper catchment has triggered flood-like situation in Subarnapur area under Banki block in Cuttack district.

As per reports, communication between four Panchayats and Banki and has been cut off due to heavy flow of floodwater on Huluhula nullah bridge near Subarnapur. The bridge is submerged under 5 ft water.

“People of four panchayats in Banki depend on the bridge for communication. Connection between the Panchayats is lost now. Floodwater has also gushed into several houses,” said a local.

Similarly, another nullah bridge in Similipur Panchayat has been flooded with 4 ft floodwater snapping communication between four  Panchayats, including Bilipada. Around 10,000 villagers have been affected due to flash flood.

Meanwhile, locals have expressed strong resentment alleging that  no steps have been taken by the administration to rescue people residing in low-laying areas.  The people of the area are facing various problems.

Reportedly, more than 7.30 ,877 cusec water was flowing at Mundali by 10 AM today.
