WB man gets lifer for raping minor girl in Odisha’s Cuttack

Cuttack: The Special POCSO Court here today sentenced a man to life imprisonment for raping a minor girl in Tangi police station area here in 2019.

The court also imposed a fine of Rs 25,000 on convict Khokan Maiti for the crime. Besides, the court directed the District Legal Services Authority (DLSA) to provide compensation of Rs 7 lakh to the survivor’s family.

Khokon, a native of West Bengal’s Medinapur, was staying in a house in Tangi area on rent. The minor girl was staying in another floor of the rented house. Finding her alone in the house, Khokon raped her. He impregnated the minor by raping her multiple times. Later, he kidnapped her and took the girl to Kolkata, where he threatened her to not disclose the matter before anyone. Moreover, he asked her to abort the baby.

Acting on a complaint registered in October, 2019, Tangi police had launched an investigation and later arrested Khokon from Kolkata.
