WB man seeking to open fake MCL a/c arrested in Odisha

Commissionerate police today arrested a 46-year-old man from Hotel Sambit Palace in the city during a search for allegedly attempting to open a proxy account in the name of Mahanadi Coalfield Limited (MCL) at Punjab National Bank (PNB) located at Station Square here with fake documents and mail.

Kharvela Nagar police have slapped charges under sections 419, 420, 467, 468, 471 of IPC and 65 IT act against the accused, identified as Subhasish Sen of North 24 Pargana district in West Bengal.

According to commissionerate police, on March 22 a person identifying himself as Rajdeep Chakraborty, senior marketing manager of Coal India Limited, sought to open an account at PNB here in the name of MCL, Burla. In this connection he submitted documents from mail id [email protected].

Suspecting the authenticity of the mail ID, the aforesaid bank contacted MCL authorities and found all the documents and the mail to be fake. Subhash Chandra Sharma, assistant general manager of PNB here, then submitted a report at Kharvela Nagar police station on Friday for necessary action.

During the course of the investigation, the accused was apprehended at Hotel Sambit Palace in the city. The accused confessed to the crime of attempting to open a proxy account in the name of MCL during interrogation.

Getting information from reliable sources, the police team conducted a surprise raid in the hotel room number-101 and arrested the accused. Police seized three different fake voter identity cards from the accused in the name of Tapan Das, Rajdeep Chakraborty and Subhasish sen which the accused was using to open fake account.

Besides, other fake documents with seal of ONGC Vadodara and MCL ,suspected to have been used by the accused for some illegal purpose, have also been seized from his possession, said a senior police official of the Kharvela Nagar police station.

The accused was forwarded to the judicial custody after being produced in a local court today.
